DivX Pro 6.8 - FREE (limited time)

For a limited time, DivX Pro 6.8 is available to download for free. This software usually costs $19.99. There are versions for both PC and Mac. In a nutshell, DivX Pro gives you everything you need to create DivX videos. The software includes the DivX codec, DivX converter, DivX player, DivX web player and the content uploader. While installing it, you're given an option to install the Yahoo toolbar. Make sure to change that to "no" if you don't want it. (It's totally unnecessary and unrelated to the DivX software.)

The software download includes the DivX Pro Codec and the most advanced version of the DivX video encoder. This allows you to create high-quality DivX files in combination with DivX Converter or another third-party encoding application. The DivX converter is used to create videos by dragging and dropping other video formats. The files created are high quality, but also highly compressed in order to save space on your hard drive. You can merge multiple videos into a single DivX file with an automatically generated menu.

Why would you want to make DivX files?? If you convert your files to DivX, you can do a lot with them since they are smaller than traditional video files. They can be burned to CD or DVD and watched on a TV with a certified DVD player. They could be transferred to certified handheld or portable devices to watch on the go. You can even post your home movies online, email videos to friends or store your entire video collection on your computer.
