Get in Shape - Free Pedometer

Are you trying to exercise more in order to get in shape? You can sign up for a free pedometer from myheartnow.com. I got mine a couple of months ago and it works great. It looks like they are still giving them away, but only to those who live in the United States. You take a short survey and they mail you a pedometer free of charge.

So why would you want a pedometer anyway? Well, the more activity you get in a day, the healthier you will be and the more calories you'll be burning. You should aim to see your pedometer reading 10,000 steps per day. If you spend a lot of time on a treadmill or chasing toddlers around, you may hit this mark rather easily. If you find that you need to fit in some extra steps, try sneaking them into your normal routine, adding a little bit more everyday. Take the steps instead of an elevator, park at the back of the grocery store parking lot or walk around the block during your coffee break at work.

A site that has some nice fitness and walking information is The Walking Site. They outline the reasons and ways to get 10,000 steps, how to increase your activity safely, why you should stretch and even what your target heart rate should be. If you haven't been walking at all and want to get going, they have a great beginner program, Zero to Sixty in Twelve Weeks.

Happy Walking!
